Tatra Trucks to showcase Tatra Phoenix vehicles in latest design for the first time at Bauma 2025

2 April, 2025

The 34th edition of the international Bauma trade fair will take place in Munich, Germany, from April 7 to 13. Held every three years, Bauma offers the opportunity to present innovations and special vehicles designed for the construction and mining industries. It is one of the largest events of its kind in the world. The Czech vehicle manufacturer Tatra Trucks has been exhibiting at Bauma for many years, as the construction and mining sectors are key markets for its products.

This year, Tatra Trucks will present two vehicles of the Tatra Phoenix model line at booth number 441 in Hall B4. The Phoenix model line has long been a main production pillar of the company for the construction and mining industry. The vehicles on display will feature 8x8 chassis configurations of the latest third generation of the Tatra Phoenix series. For the first time, they will be shown with a newly designed front grille, optimized for more efficient cooling of the Paccar MX-13 engines. The new grille was designed by Lukáš Taneček, who also created the third generation Tatra Force design, which received a Red Dot Award last year. The new Phoenix grille incorporates unified design elements shared with the Tatra Force model line.

The displayed one-way tipper Tatra Phoenix 8x8 is intended for operation in both rough terrain and regular roads. Its maximum gross weight can reach up to 50 tons, with a payload of nearly 30 tons. The tipping body, made by partner company VS-Mont, has a capacity of 20 m³. The vehicle is powered by a Paccar MX-13 engine with an output of 390 kW, paired with an Allison 4500PR automatic transmission featuring a retarder and a Tatra reduction gearbox. The front independently suspended steerable axles can each carry up to 10 tons, while the rear nonsteerable axles with independent suspension support up to 16 tons each, all equipped with an air suspension system.

The vehicle is fitted with a short-day cab and features include independent water heating, air conditioning, infotainment with a display, interior LED lighting, a refrigerator, and an electrically operated sunroof. The truck is also equipped with LED headlights, warning beacons, and a kerb view window in the co-driver's door for better driver awareness and increased safety.

The second vehicle on display is a three-way tipper Tatra Phoenix 8x8, also suitable for operation in rough construction or mining environments as well as on paved roads. It is powered by a Paccar MX-13 engine with an output of 355 kW. The transmission is a 12-speed automated ZF Traxon with an integrated retarder, coupled with a Tatra reduction gearbox. All axles feature air suspension. The steerable front axles have a load capacity of 10 tons each, while the rear axles have a load capacity of 11.5 tons each. The vehicle's total gross weight can reach 41 tons, with a payload of over 26 tons and a VS-Mont tipping body has capacity of 14.6 m³.

This three-way tipper is also fitted with a Phoenix cab featured in the new extended sleeper version. The cab equipment includes a powerful infotainment system with eight speakers including a subwoofer, and the Digital Vision electronic system providing a 360-degree situational overview using cameras and sensors – including those replacing traditional side mirrors.

Bauma is one of the most significant global trade fairs for construction and mining machinery and vehicles. At the previous edition in 2022, over 3,200 exhibitors from 60 countries showcased their products and services across 614,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibition space. Nearly half a million visitors from over 200 countries attended. These figures highlight the importance of the Munich trade fair, which also acts as an indicator of innovation trends and the future of the construction and mining industries.
